According to our Holy Tradition, St. Luke, a Greek doctor and painter, that wrote his Gospel based to the narrations of the Virgin Mary, was the first who painted her. He painted four icons. One is in Cyprus and an other one is in Greece, at the Mega Spilaion Monastery.
Σύμφωνα με την Ιερή Παράδοση, ο άγιος Λουκάς, Έλληνας γιατρός και ζωγράφος που βάσισε το Ευαγγέλιό του στις διηγήσεις της Παρθένου Μαρίας, ήταν ο πρώτος που τη ζωγράφισε. Ζωγράφισε τέσσερις εικόνες. Μία βρίσκεται στην Κύπρο κι άλλη μια στην Ελλάδα, στη Μονή Μεγάλου Σπηλαίου.
